Examinations and Preventative Dentistry

Sealants are thin fillings that are placed into the grooves of adult teeth once they erupt into the mouth. They are intended to prevent cavities from starting within the deep grooves of molars/premolars and are recommended for some children as they undergo the development of their dentition and improve their homecare abilities. Because sealants do not require any dental freezing, children tolerate the procedure very well.

Includes a TMJ evaluation, oral cancer screening and an examination for cavities, including bitewing x‑rays and a panoramic x‑ray. Options to restore or replace broken or missing teeth and any other concerns you have regarding your dentition will also be addressed.

Includes an exam and x‑rays focused a specific area of the mouth that is causing pain, discomfort, or concerns. Treatment and/or pain control will usually be provided on the day of the appointment with more definitive treatment to be provided at a later date if required.

A registered dental hygienist will provide a complete periodontal examination including gingival probing. Treatment provided may include tooth prophylaxis, scaling, root‑planing, fluoride application, and oral hygiene instruction. There is a definite emphasis on patient comfort throughout the appointment and our hygienists focus on gentle, compassionate care while providing thorough treatment to achieve proper gingiva and periodontal health. A future treatment schedule will be determined based on your specific needs. We also offer modern air polishing services for a more comfortable experience for sensitive patients.

Restorative/Pediatric Dentistry

Morinville is a growing community with many young families. Our entire team is comfortable working on patients of all ages and are dedicated to creating an exciting and happy visit. We strongly believe that going to the dentist doesn’t have to be scary and can be a rewarding and fun experience. We offer “chair ride” appointments (with no dental treatment necessary) to help our youngest patients feel more comfortable as they ease into their first dental experience. Nitrous sedation (laughing gas) can also be provided for our pediatric patients who are a little more nervous. We also have a close working relationship with pediatric specialists/orthodontists should the need arise for a referral.

Crowns (also referred to as “caps”) are used to restore and rebuild fractured teeth or teeth at significant risk of a future fracture. The team at Lafleur Family Dentistry offers three types of crowns: full gold, white porcelain fused to gold, and all‑porcelain crowns with no metal in them. Any of our dentists would be happy to discuss the best option for you.

Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by utilizing adjacent teeth as support. Much like crowns, they can be made from gold, porcelain fused to gold, or all‑porcelain depending on the location and nature of the bridge. Bridges are one of three options for replacing missing teeth along with dental implants and removable prosthetics (dentures).

Veneers are lab‑processed (porcelain) or direct (composite) restorations that are placed on the surface of your front teeth with minimal tooth preparation in order to improve the overall appearance and function of your teeth.

The dentists at Lafleur Family Dentistry use a variety of composite (white) fillings and occasionally amalgam (silver) fillings depending on the location, nature of the filling, and other considerations. White fillings are best for front teeth where they will match the tooth in which they are placed. Silver fillings are best suited for areas where isolation of the restoration proves difficult. Please feel free to discuss the best choice of filling for your tooth with any of our dentists.

Dental Surgery and Root Canals

A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into the upper or lower jaw bone and then restored with a crown at a later date after appropriate healing has occurred. The procedure is minimally invasive and patients tend to feel very comfortable post‑operatively. Dental implant placement at Lafleur Family Dentistry is provided by Dr. Tim Barter. Dental implants can be treatment planned to replace single teeth, multiple teeth, and even support existing dentures.

The dentists at Lafleur Family dentistry are competent and comfortable in the removal of intact or badly broken-down teeth. In difficult to remove situations, such as when wisdom teeth are impacted (covered by bone and/or soft tissue), an in-office referral will be made to Dr. Tim Barter. Dr. Barter is a dentist, with advanced training in general dentistry, who has focused his practice towards dental surgery and is competent in treatment of even the most difficult cases. To make the experience more convenient for you, Dr. Barter comes to our office every Friday to provide this treatment in-house, saving you a trip elsewhere. Dr. Barter also provides IV sedation to make the experience more comfortable for you.

Dentures are removable prosthetic appliances fabricated from either metal/acrylic or all acrylic that are intended to replace some or all of your missing teeth. The team at Lafleur Family Dentistry work closely with denturists and dental labs to make sure our patients receive all necessary denture‑related treatment.

When the pulp (nerve) of a tooth dies it can be a very painful process. Root canals remove the dead/dying tissue and eliminate the pain and infection risk from the inside of a tooth so that the bone and gums that support the tooth can heal. In most cases, teeth that have root canals are more prone to future fracture and ideally must also have a crown completed at a later date to prevent this occurrence.

IV sedation (Intravenous Sedation) is provided by Dr. Tim Barter and a registered nurse for surgical procedures including wisdom teeth removal, soft and hard tissue grafting procedures, and placement of dental implants, should a patient prefer. A consult with Dr. Barter is required before treatment. We also offer nitrous sedation for both adults and pediatric patients. In the near future, we will also be offering IV sedation for general dentistry procedures in adult patients. If these options interest you, please discuss with your dental provider at your appointment.
